Hot air ballooning at Lake Tahoe is an experience that you will never forget. Imagine floating silently through the air. You are awe struck by the breathtaking views, the lakes emerald waters and the surrounding snow capped mountains..
Lake Tahoe Balloons is the only year round operation offering flights in this area. In the winter, flights are conducted from the Carson Valley. Take off is from Lampy Park in Gardnerville and flights last approximately an hour. Flights drift with the wind and take you to 8,500 to 10,000 feet. You will have magnificent views of the Carson Valley, Sierra ranges and Lake Tahoe so remember to bring your camera. On a really clear day you may even see Yosemite National Park.
In the summer, flights depart from the Tahoe Keys in South Lake Tahoe. This is possibly the only operation in the country where a balloon actually lifts off and lands from the deck of a specially designed 120-foot Catamaran. The winter to summer flight schedule usually changes Memorial Day weekend (the end of May). Call for directions and remember reservations are required. Lift-off is at 6:00 a.m. They ask that you call at 5:00 a.m. to ensure the weather conditions are suitable for that day. A continental breakfast is included prior to lift off and there is a champagne brunch with the captain after the flight. The entire experience will take around 3 hours and the pilot says they have never landed in the same place twice.
